Our history

St Peter's House Project (SPH) was started by Paul Fricker in 1987. He was inspired to help people who were diagnosed with HIV and AIDS at a time when there was little understanding and no treatment or support available. Paul began with a telephone helpline, then expanded support to a buddy system. His goal for the project was to have a safe haven – a house where comfort and sanctuary would be available to those in need.

Since those early days, the needs of people living with HIV have changed and so has SPH. The introduction of effective drug treatment has changed life expectancy and treatment options – but the stigma remains. Today people living with HIV may experience poverty, discrimination and isolation. SPH is here to here to offer practical and social support.
