Background

History
St Peters House Project (SPH) was started by Paul Fricker in 1987. He was inspired to help people who were diagnosed with HIV and AIDS at that time when there was little understanding and no treatment or support available. Paul began with a telephone helpline, then expanded support to a “Buddy” system. His goal for the project was to have a safe haven – a house where comfort and sanctuary would be available to those in need.

Since those early days, the needs of people living with HIV have changed and so has SPH. The introduction of effective drug treatment changed life expectancy and treatment options. Today people living with HIV may be challenged by poverty, discrimination and isolation. SPH responds by providing practical and social support.

Management

The strategy of SPH is planned and managed by a Board of Trustees who ensure that the tradition of care and support continues. The trustees are volunteers who offer their time and skills to make sure the project remains financially viable, responds to identified needs of service users and is accountable to funders and other stake holders.

The Board of Trustees

Led by Chairman Richard Dean, the Trustees are John Prevett, John Tidswell, Richard Bennett, Anne Richardson and Dr Usha Natarajan.
